Furtive Father Winter!
Season's Greetings! Dreamy from Drunkard's Regalia here! I wanted to make a post regarding our fellow Altaholic. I used to think I had a lot of alts. After visiting and going through the amount of alts Altaholic has, I can safely say I am not even close. I think Altaholic has their own army, which has inspired me to create a horrifyingly bad short comic of what might happen if we were to encounter one another in wow...

15 Days of Screenshots: Day 3. Representing You
"Show us an image that represents who you are, either in Azeroth/Outland or in real life."
Well..huh...
IRL isn't happening. As for in character...That's kind of hard. I am the Altaholic you know. But, well some of my more favorite characters.
Id planned to do something more fancy but even after I knocked a few characters out it ended up being a real beast to work up so just the simple shots. Click on them if you want a bigger picture to look at.

She tasks me and I shall gladly answer
Over at fallingleavesandwing there was a comment about Windsoar of Jadedalt giving out topics for bloggers. Out of curiosity I dropped her a line and she was willing to work one up.
I noticed that you’ve rerolled some characters more than once (priest/hunter/paladin). If it wasn’t for giggles (i.e. to play with friends/on another server) why did you choose to do so? -Windwoar
I really have to stop being so fashionably late to these things. Ah Ill just pin the blame on Comcast, it makes them good for something. Anyway - on with the show!

Characters, characters, everywhere
So you want to start leveling some characters and you find y ourself wondering what to pick, theres 10 to chose from!
Well OK, so no Death Knights till you get to 55 on a character but you get the picture.
What I suggest is 4 characters to level +1-2 'bank alts'.
1 Tank class, 1 DPS class, 1 healer Class, 1 Hunter. This will let you try out the various roles in the game and if yu dont like them you can do something else. For example if you pick a Druid as you 'try a healer' and decide you hate it you can always try it as a tank or dps.
Oh why a hunter specifically? their great at solo leveling and hunting/gathering to support other characters. Everyone should have a hunter. :D
The breakdown
Tank/DPS
Warrior, Death Knight
Tank/DPS/Healer
Druid, Paladin
Healer/DPS
Shaman, Priest
DPS
Rogue, Hunter, Warlock, Mage
So what to do if you want to have a death knight? Just be patient. Level your other characters and when you get one to 55 you can roll a Death Knight. But realize she will end up 58 when you finish the starting zone so she will be 3 levels above your other toons. You might want to wait a bit just so she isnt too far ahead.

Alts in Warcraft-a few thoughts
A good friend of mine put a great question to me: Why play alts?
Virtually everyone has one or two they play around on. Its really in your best interest to make a 'bank alt' to hold stuff for your main character... or two... or five depending on how much of a packrat you are :D
But why go through the repetitive work of leveling, what do I get out of it?
Your a winner!
Some people like to do EVERYTHING in a game. All the hidden quests, optional character, little toys you can find. But that hasn't ever been me. I played Final Fantasy and enjoyed it, sometimes I go back and do a little more if I really want to see an alternate plot but I lose my drive once I beat the game. Yet how do you beat an MMO? There is no final story (at least not for another 20 levels) so theres a lack of any sort of ending. For me at least by leveling all the characters I get a sense of completion I could of experienced with the end credits of a good game.
Theres more to do, and more to experience but the core game has been explored. World, NPCs mechanics, encounters. The rich depth that is Azeroth.
Gotta catch em all!
A part of it is the collectors desire to have 'one of everything' in a run I suppose. To be able to say Ive been there, done that. But really, not so much. If I felt that kind of drive Id obsess over the achievement system time sink instead of the character improvement one :)
Oh the answer is easy...
I love helping people and the best way to help them is to know what the heck your talking about. Not in that
I read a forum about a guy who knew a guy who did something like that sort of way but through shared experiences in struggling with DPS, mana, and the like. Theres a huge difference between practical experience and ivory tower thoughts.

Here is one I dont think Ive ever seen mentioned. When your out leveling and doing things you tend to be less cut off from people in the game. The groups for roleplaying and raiding can be much more difficult to find an 'in' with. best of all every so often you find a diamond in the rough, some person whos really cool and great to be friends with.
Final reason...
I'm good at leveling and have fun learning new classes. Remembering what drops where how fast so what quest is worth doing and what one you tell to kiss off. Figuring out what abilities make a class dance through enemies like their not even a problem. before wow-pro and other guides I could crank out impressive speed in my runs, and with them its just soo easy.
