Gaming Distractions

Everyone had different things they like to do in addition to their main task at hand.  Smoking, eating, watching TV, music, talking on the phone...the list goes on and on. So take a moment and reflect on what you do while playing Warcraft.  Leave a comment if you like.

Here are a few of mine....

Netflix - Their play on demand service lets me watch all kinds of nature and history shows and old movies I know well enough o not need every bit of my visual attention.  While WoW hardly needs me to listen to it anymore.  So this also Qualifies as TV I guess because they have older shows from when I thought TV was still good (Pre reality TV).

Shared Topic: One vs Many? (Solo vs Party Questing)

Perish Twice of Dual Boxing & Death gave us this really cool question:

While there are some quests that specifically call for grouping, most don't... but do you group anyway? How many of you pick up a friend or guildie to quest with and how many grind the lonely roads alone?

<Puts a rocking chair on the porch and puts on a shawl and starts threatening with the walking stick>

Back in my starting days if you found a group quest you darn well knew to avoid it if you weren't a group.  All it took was a bit of sense and the rewards made the extra effort worth it.

Mogging Part 2

So I went to my friends and asked them what they thought about my Transmogrify idea - now dubbed Mogging by the WoW community.

Best idea Bliz will never do

Shared Topic Part 2!

One of the Dawnforge podcasts I listen o reguarly is the All Things Azeroth show.  in Ep 258 (the most recent one) they were discussing the Transmogrification thing and the main host Medros had an epic idea.

Valor points let you buy the best gear.  Everyone wants them because of that.  Justice points lets you buy gear that is a step lower, so their OK, but not as good as VP.  Raiders, dungeons runners, they end up with a surplus of JP quickly since it comes much faster than VP as you run raids and dungeons.

Shared Topic: Transmogrification and Void Storage

Essence over at GamerGirlConfessions (and many more) tossed out the topic of reactions to the Transmogrification as a shared topic for Blogazeroth.  Ive been thinking quite a bit about this topic so here is my take.

At first I was very optimistic when I heard about the reskinning.  It had been a topic Id posted about on the wow forums for some time.  I love 'looks' for my characters and being 'stuck in the suck' was something that would make me stop playing a character.

Then more details came out and my hopes were crippled.  Still moving but not running free through the meadow any more.

Shared Topic: What kind of Guild?

Dragonray over at Azerothianlife has a great BlogAzeroth shared question.

What kind of guild environment do you like? From this I am referring to whether you like a quiet guild or a chatty guild - is there a happy medium?

Dragonray has some really cool ideas for topics.  She really does.

Sometimes you want to go...

Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same.

You wanna be where everybody knows....Your name.

Shared Topic: Identity & Affiliation

Akabeko at Redcow asks

"How does your character define themself?
What part of their identity is most important to their personality and self-presentation?
In meatspace, we have so many affiliations, it's anyone's guess whether we consider ourselves a tuba player first, or a student, a Gators fan, a New Yorker, a mother, a nerd, a liberal. Our identities are comprised of so many different aspects of life that it's hard to tell which parts different people will choose to define themselves.  In game, there are less game-related ways to identify.  You can identify as:your class - your specyour race - a particular subgroup (Mag'har, Wildhammer) your faction - a faction other than Horde/Alliance."

Whew that's a good question but the first one I have to wrestle with is which character?  I have several that I've developed deeply.  But I've mostly given loving to my Alliance characters so far in posts so lets talk about the Horde.

The Hook

Ringo Flinthammer over at http://www.flinthammer.org/ asked;
"Despite a well-publicized dip in subscriber numbers, most WoW players have stuck around. But those folks didn't leave for no reason, so what keeps you coming back and still playing?
Is it the friends? The new content? Old content still to explore? Alts? PvP? Roleplaying?"

The easy answer is 'the friends' of course.  This game has always been about the people you meet for me as much as the game world.  Its what made it so easy to conjure up a character and Roleplay in it, to find the will to face the soulcrushing raid grind.

I do love leveling new characters or did.  Azeroth doesn't feel as unique or cool any more with the Cataclysm and that ruined my leveling experience.  Well mostly Blue side but ya know its affected how I look at the Red too.

The Consequences of Death in an MMO (Blog Azeroth Shared Topic)

Sharden over on http://15minutesofwow.wordpress.com/ posted a really interesting topic.

"How do you think dying in an MMO should affect the characters? In WoW we have a relatively insignificant repair cost from durability for a PVE death and no consequence for dying to another player. Do you think this is enough, too much, or needing improvement? Tie-ins to related MMO's or multiplayer games and what sort of repricussion there is for failure there can be a good way to explain your thoughts."

Their post about it can be found here.

Twisted Nether Munchies (Shared Topic)

By: Amerence of Amerence Love WoW

What sort of things get you through your daily grind of quest, dungeon runs, etc?  I have a wide variety of snacks I favor.  The easy part though is drinks, soda is the best.  Usually Diet cola but Ill drink leaded gas if that's the caffeine I can get my hands on.

New Class Speculation (twistednether shared topic)

Suggested by Shadowfox of Death Knights Don’t Blog
Looking into the future of 86+ I think the next class will have to include a tank spec due to the need for tanks.  It also should have some core elements both to draw people to the game who hadn't considered it before and to satisfy current players who pick it up with its flavor and playstyle.  I have to admit I have trouble picking just one option so I will just sketch up two of them.
